This split 7″ is the first in a series of 8 singles in Faux Discx Record’s new CMYK, featuring interconnected artwork and exclusive songs by hot new bands.

Male Bonding, who have already made some pretty sweet sounding singles with Pens and Graffiti Island, are first up, delivering an infectious, rickety, ping-pong affair that makes them sound like a British Abe Vigoda. It’s slippery, fresh-faced stuff and it’s all over the place, but it’s all the better for it. Reinventing the wheel it ain’t, but ‘Stare At My Problems’ is damned good fun.

Next up is Cold Pumas, who have already impressed me this year (http://thisisoffset.co.uk/?p=1854) in support slots for Mi Ami and HEALTH, and they do not disappoint here. ‘Alterted Yeast’ (hopefully a reference to the similarly named video game) is a noisier, more focused affair but offers a great counterpoint to the first track. Repetitive, insistent and noisy, it’s something a little more challenging than Male Bonding’s track, but both are great listens.

Overall, this split single series seems like an excellent idea, and this first one shows that there are some brilliant up-and-coming British guitar bands out there.
