Bush Tetras

With the release of new Bush Tetras album “Very Very Happy” recently, it’s a great time to reaquaint ourselves with one of the most influential bands to come out of the fertile NY post-punk scene. So grab a track from the album by reading on…

Playing a style of music that could be variously called Punk-funk, Rare Beats, Post-punk, and closely affiliated with No Wave bands such as the Contortions (Pat Place, guitarist, was an original member of James Chance’s Contortions), they actually have more musical similarities with British bands of the time, especially Au Pairs, Delta 5 and The Slits. Today, you can’t walk through TopMan without hearing a band who owe a massive debt to these pioneers, but if you go back to the original bands you’ll find a spirit and talent that only the best bands of any age display.

Go and buy Boom In The Night: Original Studio Recordings 1980-1983, a pretty complete collection that won’t leave your player for months, and grab Very Very Happy when you can!

Here’s the re-recording of Too Many Creeps (on the right of the page linked) from Very Very Happy - an essential download!

Interesting - I didn’t know the guitarist was from the Contortions. Haven’t bought Boom in the Night yet but I think it’ll be added to my list of things to get.

Here’s a video of Bush Tetra’s playing at the Knitting Factory in NY. Wish I’d been there, they sound great.
